McGuire Entrepreneurship Scholars Program RFP

Request for Proposals: McGuire Entrepreneurship Scholars Program

Developing entrepreneurship curriculum options at The University of Arizona

This initiative seeks to grow the McGuire Entrepreneurship Scholars Program, initiated in 2003 and designed to stimulate, harness, and grow entrepreneurship education courses in disciplines across The University of Arizona. Given the tremendous emphasis on entrepreneurial development in education across the country, and at The University of Arizona in light of economic recovery and development activities, there is an ever-growing interest in creating entrepreneurship education curricula in a variety of disciplines.

Currently, a handful of courses emphasizing entrepreneurship exist outside the McGuire Center, which houses The University of Arizona’s formal entrepreneurship education program. The goal of the McGuire Entrepreneurship Scholars Program is to grow that number and the scope of disciplines in which entrepreneurship education courses are offered.

Objective

The McGuire Center will award three selected faculty from academic departments across campus with $3,500 awards, based on their interest in developing discipline-specific or multidisciplinary entrepreneurship curriculum related to their field of study. As an in-kind program contribution, the faculty member’s departments will provide each with teaching load time to teach the course for at least one semester.

Requirements

The McGuire Center is highly interested in stimulating the creation and growth of high-quality entrepreneurship education courses. Faculty members responding to this RFP have the option to include specific course material emphasizing entrepreneurship, or to simply describe their goals and interest in developing and teaching a course in entrepreneurship. In this case, McGuire Center faculty will work with the faculty member, if selected, on customizing population-specific entrepreneurship curriculum.

All RFP responses are to be endorsed by the applicant’s home department, including a commitment to include the course in the faculty member’s teaching load for at least one semester. Award recipients should be willing to work within their departments and colleges, the business community, and with their program supporters to develop long-term funding for newly established courses.
