Angel in Residence
Connecting Innovation, Education, and Investors
The Anheuser-Busch Angel-in-Residence is a position created by the Anheuser-Busch Foundation to recognize exceptional entrepreneurial achievement and the stimulation of entrepreneurial activity. Angels-in-Residence work one-on-one with McGuire Entrepreneurship students in the advancement of their venture plans, and interact with the entrepreneurship program throughout the year.
Angels-in-Residence provide the keynote address to the annual IdeaFair conference, and meet with student teams, offering counsel and connections on their venture plans.
The 2008 Angel-in-Residence was John May, the managing partner of New Vantage Group, a Virginia-based firm that mobilizes private equity capital into early-stage companies. May is chairman of the Angel Capital Association and a lead instructor for their “Power of Angel Investing” seminars.
Prior to the Angel-in-Residence program, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation provided funding for the McGuire Center’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence, a similar program designed to provide students with mentor opportunities from globally successful entrepreneurs.
Building productive relationships with angel investors and successful entrepreneurs and familiarizing them with UA-developed innovations is an opportunity the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship and its partners have jointly crafted. Such relationships support and nurture innovation and economic growth in Southern Arizona through education, economic development, investment, and management.
