Raising the Bar on Entrepreneurship Research
Entrepreneurship is an emerging field with countless avenues for academic exploration. The McGuire Center is raising the bar on entrepreneurship research with a robust agenda directed at increasing academic understanding of the field and building crossroads among faculty across departments and colleges at The University of Arizona.
The James and Pamela Muzzy Chair in Entrepreneurship oversees the Center’s interdisciplinary approach to topics such as the valuation and enforcement of intellectual property, the sociology of networks, venture capital finance, contract design, the formation of social networks, governance and succession in entrepreneurial firms, and the effect of incentives on innovation.
Collaborative Research
Faculty members from around the University — and invited faculty from other institutions — interact at regular forums in which they share current research papers and explore possible avenues for collaborative, entrepreneurship-related research. This approach fosters an intellectual network that pays dividends for students who take classes from research-focused faculty and then apply the research shared in class to their venture concepts, and eventually, in the marketplace. The McGuire Center is also home to the Thomas R. Brown Chair in Technology Management and the Anheuser-Busch Chair in Entrepreneurship Studies, whose holders work to strengthen the Center’s ties to science and technology-focused initiatives and research and scholarship, respectively.
