Tech/Knowledge Transfer

The McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship’s activities are rooted in both traditional educational approaches including formal degree programs, credit classes, internships, seminars and colloquia, and independent study, as well as new vehicles for education delivery that provide opportunity to institutionalize entrepreneurship. These include a variety of multi discipline initiatives, programs that focus on knowledge use and transfer from the University to the society, and extensive and ground floor collaboration/partnership with university entities that embody or seek to embody entrepreneurial characteristics, including the UA Office of Technology Transfer, the Bio5 (institute comprising five, bio-related sciences), Optical Sciences Center, and Genomics Research Laboratory.
The nature of the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship’s partnerships with these types of programs and initiatives are unparalleled and as such, provide increased benefit for all areas of the University and the University itself.
The key focus of the knowledge transfer mindset is exploring and leveraging the opportunities to advance university entrepreneurship and technology/knowledge transfer by linking them more closely.
Academic programs, business planning, feasibility study, seminars and colloquia, focused research, fellowships, scholarship, new course and curriculum development, publications, and outreach are all points of focus in the Knowledge Transfer activities of the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship.
Topics include, among others: the roles of student entrepreneurs during preparation for and after the business launch; forging ties with principal investigators; funding sources for curriculum development and student participation; working with the local business community.
