Entrepreneurship Alumni Panel Discussion 

4:00 - 5:00 p.m., McClelland Hall, Room 208 Gallery

McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship Executive Director Joseph Broschak will lead a panel discussion with UA entrepreneurship alumni to discuss entrepreneurship in Tucson and Southern Arizona, and the role and impact of the McGuire Center within the local entrepreneurial community. The event is free and open to the public. 

The panelists are:

Jarret Hamstreet, MBA
Co-Founder and CSO/Director, Post.Bid.Ship

Post.Bid.Ship uses technology to bring about a more efficient commercial transportation marketplace. The concept won the McGuire Program's top honor of “Best New Venture” for 2010, and Hamstreet and Micky Thompson launched Post.Bid.Ship. in July 2010. 

In 1998, Hamstreet assisted his father in founding his second trucking company, Transport 2000, Inc. Hamstreet participated in several functional areas of the company, including accounts receivable management and collections, banking and cash management, and customer service, particularly to French-speaking Canadian customers.

During 2003-2008, Jarret held key posts in government and political organizations, where he managed annual budgets as large as $6 million and coordinated political fundraising efforts that raised over $10 million.

Jarret earned his undergraduate degree in economics from Tulane University. In 2010, he received his Master of Business Administration in Finance and Entrepreneurship from The University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management. While pursuing his MBA, Jarret worked for the Desert Angels, one of the country’s largest angel investor networks, for whom he conducted due diligence.

Jen Watson Koevary, Ph.D. 
COO, Avery Therapeutics 

Dr. Koevary joined Avery Therapeutics in 2016. She brings business development and research expertise as Chief Operating Officer and is leading the commercialization strategy and operations.

Prior to joining Avery Therapeutics, Dr. Koevary worked in business development at the University of Arizona where she was responsible for guiding technology and business development for University startups, managing gap funding programs, and leading entrepreneurial education programs.

Dr. Koevary earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Arizona and has research and consulting experience in medical imaging, materials engineering for biomedical applications and mechanical design and analysis for medical devices.

Eric Smith, BSBA
Commercialization Manager, Tech Launch Arizona 

As Commercialization Network Manager, Smith focuses on building and leveraging TLA's network of domain experts and business drivers who consult on University technologies to help reveal their commercial relevance as they are prepared for the market.

After graduating from Eller with a BSBA in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, Eric decided to sell Revolution Entertainment, his company of 5 years.

With a successful sale behind him, Eric took his knowledge to industry as the Business Development Manager for Aztera, a technology development and engineering company in Tucson. His role was to not only bring in business, but he was also heavily involved in project management, HR, Operations and the creation of Aztera’s startups from idea to funding. In 2013, he was selected as the ambassador for a partnership between Aztera, the City of Tucson, and Tech Launch Arizona. Eric's role was to represent the city in commercialization efforts at the UA.

Micky Thompson, MBA
CEO, Think Outsource
Co-Founder, Post.Bid.Ship

Prior to co-founding Post.Bid.Ship., Micky launched three profitable technology companies. Micky’s first venture, ACT! Certified, was launched in 2000 and under his leadership, ACT! Certified grew into one of the nation’s largest value added resellers for the customer management system “ACT! by Sage Software.” In 2003, Micky was named to the Sage Software President’s Club and joined ACT!’s advisory board.

In 2004, Micky launched Think Outsource, Inc. Think Outsource develops, implements and maintains custom technology strategies for their clients’ unique business processes. Their systems serve as the organization’s foundation and are designed to grow and change as the organization does. Through his work at Think Outsource, Micky has served as the outsourced CIO for over 500 employees and within firms representing the medical, entertainment and non-profit industries.

Micky raised $1.2 million of venture capital in 2006 to start Jennex CRM, a web-based customer management system used by non-profits to automate complex processes and manage their multiple stakeholders. Jennex CRM is an online platform designed to help organizations such as the Dawson McAllister Association and TheHopeLine.com, along with their partner ministries Focus on the Family, Truth Media Internet, OptionLine and many more, to help combine and scale their organizations’ efforts to address the needs of hurting teens and young adults throughout the U.S. and beyond.

UA Entrepreneurship Program alumni are invited to join McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship faculty, staff and students for a reception in our newly renovated Center. Come meet the new McGuire class, network with fellow entrepreneurs, and see our new space. Light food and beverages will be provided.

Open to UA Entrepreneurship Program alumni from all class years.
