The McGuire Summer Academy in Entrepreneurship is a one-week summer program for juniors and seniors from local high schools serving underserved communities. Although the Summer Academy targets underserved communities, we encourage students from any Tucson-area high school to apply.

During the weeklong Summer Academy, students work in teams to develop an idea from concept to business plan. University faculty, business professionals, entrepreneurs, and university students teach collaborative, hands-on classes, but Summer Academy students also learn outside the classroom through field trips to start-up companies and interactions with executive managers. The culmination of the week is a "Shark Tank" event where student teams present their business plans to a panel of judges.

Summer Academy students stay at University of Arizona residence halls and attend courses taught in the state-of-the-art Muzzy Interactive Learning Lab at McClelland Hall, the home of Eller College of Management and the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is a way of thinking. It is an attitude not an outcome. At the McGuire Center we are committed to helping entrepreneurially minded young people develop their ideas and become agents for change. We cultivate the entrepreneurial spirit within them and challenge them to find solutions and become problem solvers.

Previous students had the following to say about their McGuire Summer Academy experience:

"I learned a lot through this program, like how accounting works, how to do a business model, and how to learn when you fail."

"Getting to hear all the people talk really motivated me to do better in school and go to college."

"Thank you for helping me find my passion."
